Angel of Obsession
Medium Celestial, Lawful EvilIf a devout member of a faith implores divine powers for help against an impending danger and is deemed worthy of protection, they might be assigned a guardian angel. This celestial being watches over its assigned mortal, destroying any threats.
If a guardian angel becomes corrupted through mistreatment, catastrophic failure at its task, or some other warping influence, it loses its sense of right and wrong, as well as its sense of proportionality. Such corrupted guardian angels become angels of obsession, also known as khulexi.
An angel of obsession becomes possessive of its ward, seeing everything and everyone near the ward as a threat, including friends and family. As soon as the ward harms or hinders the angel, the corrupted celestial turns on its ward, with anyone attempting to assist the ward also facing the angel's wrath.
An angel of obsession's true form is a three-headed bipedal creature with four wings. One of the heads is humanoid, while the other two heads are vicious and animalistic in nature; avians, bovines, canines, felines, and lupines are the most typical. When walking among mortals, an angel of obsession most often takes the visage of an armored warrior or attentive animal.
Many commonfolk pray to the angels, lifting their tear-streaked faces to the sky in search of a powerful being who can fix their problems, remedy their grievances, or show them mercy. What the gods who answer those prayers fail to reveal is that the angels sent on their behalf are often more terrifying than the demons and devils everyone fears. These horrors are creatures of celestial provenance that are either terrifying in their natural form or warped versions of their benign selves through interactions with ever-demanding mortals.
